General, gabardine fabric, single piece cockade and yellow cap cord, gray piping, gray band, and yes the cloth backing seems to be the same colour/color backing as used on the Zoll/customs generals hat. I am told that this is the correct backing for the time this hat was made, and that a gray backing was used at a later period. Zoller's book shows it with the gray backing (page 80, abb. 40c) but does not provide the date of the hat shown. Two grommets/vent holes on each side of crown. Size 57 and dated "G" (1981). Black band. (Visor type S3117/3i, o-r). VEB 1856.
Lieutenant to Colonel, gabardine fabric, single piece cockade and silver cap cord, gray piping. Two black grommets/vent holes on each side of crown. Size 59 and dated "N" (1989). Black band. (Visor type S3117/1i, i-l). VEB 1856.
Patrolman to senior Sergeant, high wool content with a two piece cockade and gray cap cord, gray piping. Two grommets/vent holes on each side of crown. Size 58 and dated "M" (1970). Brown band. (Visor type "4-U"). VEB 8049. My first DDR cap.
Die Feldmütze für Frauen/Female side cap. Gabardine fabric, embroidered and metal cockade, gray piping, size 56, dated 1968. VEB 1856.
